I am a natural science illustrator with eleven years of experience.
I specialize in entomological and botanical illustration, rendered
in pen and ink, carbon dust, watercolor, acrylic, and computer-
generated line and color. My work is primarily published in books
and journal articles, yet I also have been commissioned for fine art
framed pieces. I began exhibiting in juried shows in 2004 with two
pieces at the Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona. I currently
have a piece entitled “The Hand Played” in the “biodiversity is….”
Exhibit at the Museum of Natural History and Biodiversity Research Center
at the University of Kansas.
I have been running Happy Beetle Studio for over five years.
Prior to launching my own business, I held a staff position with the
Museum of Natural History and Biodiversity Research Center
at the University of Kansas. While there, I worked for over six years
with Dr. James S. Ashe, a specialist on Aleocharine beetles, Family
Staphilinidae. I am a member of the Guild of Natural Science
Illustrators and have a decade of advanced illustration training
through the Guild. I am also a member of and the Membership Chair
for the Lawrence Art Guild. I hold a Masters in Botany-Genetics
from the University of Kansas and a B.S. of Education in Biology
from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.
